Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
